I think either of those combinations sound lovely. You might find this post from my main blog about the color wheel and how it relates to hair color helpful :)

Box color is inherently more damaging than professional color. It’s meant to be “one size fits all”, but color shouldn’t be that way. If I wanted to achieve a specific red, the color I would select to achieve that on someone with fine, blonde hair would be very different from the one I would use on someone with thick, dark hair, or anywhere in between. You can’t formulate box color - the results are unpredictable. I could go on and on, but I don’t want to get in to it.
Are you growing out your bangs? it’s the worst, right? Nothing to do with them in the meantime? Check out this tutorial on my other blog, where my friend Jessa will show you how to “suicide roll” them for a fun in-between length style!
I don’t see that being reliable at all. It will almost definitely be very uneven (some parts of it black with others murky and grey). It’s not going to be a vibrant blue, if that’s what you’re looking for.
Just about any :)
If your hair is very dark, I would personally go with a darker color just so you won’t have to damage your hair as much by bleaching it light enough to do a pastel hair color.
You’ll probably need to bleach it a little to get all of the red out, but try the tips in this article I wrote on my other blog about how to fade your hair color more gently
